Foreigners may undertake studies at Gdynia Maritime University in accordance with the regulations set out in the Higher Education Act of 27 July 2005 (Dz.U. No 164, item 1365 of 2005) and the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 12 October 2006 on undertaking studies and courses and participating in research and development work by foreigners (Dz.U. No.190, item 1406 of 2006).
1. Under the regulations applying to Polish citizens studies may be undertaken by:
a) foreigners who were given permission to settle in Poland;
b) foreigners with refugee status granted in the Republic of Poland;
c) foreigners with temporary protection status on the territory of the Republic of Poland;
d) migrant workers: citizen of Member States of the European Union or the European Free Trade Association (Efta) - contracting parties of the European Economic Area provided that they are or were employed in Poland, their family members provided that they live on the territory of the Republic of Poland;e) foreigners who acquired the EU long-term resident permit on the territory of the Republic of Poland;
f) foreigners who acquired the temporary resident permit (pursuant to Art. 53.1.7, Art. 53.1.13 and Art. 53.1.14 of the Foreigners Act of 13 June 2003 – Dz. U. No. 128, item 1175 as amended);
g) citizens of member States of the European Union or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - contracting parties of the European Economic Area and their family members having financial resources indispensable for covering the costs of living in the course of their studies; these applicants, however, are not entitled to maintenance grants, grants for the disabled, accommodation grants, food allowance and student aids;
h) applicants go through the recruitment process.
2. Remaining foreigners can undertake studies omitting the process of recruitment on the basis of:
a) international agreements in line with the provisions set out in these agreements;
b) agreements entered into with foreign entities by the institutions of higher education in line with the provisions set out in these agreements;
c) a decision of the minister responsible for higher education or the relevant minister
d) the vice-chancellor’s decision.
The foreigners in question can undertake studies:
a) as scholarship holders of the receiving institution (Poland);
b) paying tuition fees;
c) paying no tuition fees and getting no scholarship;
d) as scholarship holders of a sending institution with no tuition fees incurred;
e) as university scholarship holders.
3. Scholarship holders of the receiving institution (Poland) are granted a scholarship by the minister responsible for higher education. The minister establishes its amount.
4. Foreigners of Polish origin applying for a scholarship awarded by the Government of the Republic of Poland should contact the Polish Embassy or the Polish Consulate at their permanent residence to receive further information concerning the scholarship mentioned above.

5. The payment for intramural studies in non-marine and marine specializations amounts to EURO 5000 and EURO 6000 per annum respectively, expressed in PLN according to the table of average EURO exchange rates in the National Bank of Poland and the equivalent of EURO 200 as a non-returnable registration fee.
Tuition fees in PLN must be paid in advance by bank transfer to the university’s account or at the cash office for the whole academic year. Candidates of the Polish origin are entitled to a 30% discount.
6. Students may be provided with accommodation at Gdynia Maritime University’s Student Hostel at EURO 75-100 per month. A canteen is open from Monday to Sunday at the campus; an average meal costs circa EURO 5.
7. Satisfactory knowledge of Polish is a prerequisite for admission to the university. International candidates may gain admission to the BSc and supplementary MSc studies, uniform MSc studies taught in Polish provided that:

they complete a one - year Polish preparatory course for candidates who plan to undertake studies in units designated by the minister responsible for higher education,

they are awarded a certificate in Polish as a foreign language issued by Państwowa Komisja Poświadczania Znajomości Języka Polskiego jako Obcego,

they are given a confirmation from the university that the level of their knowledge of Polish makes it feasible for them to undertake studies in Polish

A course fee includes the cost of:
· tuition EURO 3 000
· a one – month accommodation EURO 90
· a one – month full board EURO 210
Foreigners of Polish origin are given a discount of 30%.
8. Fee-paying candidates may be offered classes conducted in English provided that a minimum of 15 people are willing to attend. In this case fees are increased by 50% (see pt 5).
9. Candidates applying for admission must submit by June 30, 2009 the following documents:

The original of a school-leaving certificate which entitles its holder to undertake the higher education studies in the country where the certificate was issued and its translation by the sworn translator.

Nostrification of the school-leaving certificate issued in in a foreign country confirming the equivalence to the Polish school - leaving certificate.

Passport, residence permit or visa.
